The first thing that got my attention was the fulfilled prophecies in the Bible. (See http://www.100prophecies.org/). That gave me the understanding that the Bible has a supernatural quality to it; it wasn't cooked by earnest but dishonest people.  I understood that long range prophecies would be ruined by self-serving people if they were too specific.

I read about Jesus in the Bible and was surprised at how much the world goes by his sayings without giving him credit.  I recognized that here was a man worth following.  But he required all or nothing when it came to following him.  After much thought, I raised my right hand and said, "I'll do it."  Then I started trying out his promises and found they worked!

When I learned to pray for things, I started praying for coincidences to happen and they did, beyond random statistical chance. I prayed for people and they were healed. I prayed for people on the other end of town, keeping track of date & time. They were healed at that date & time. I have prayed for hundreds of people for a wide variety of problems and seen a significant percentage of people healed or significantly improved. About 80% of the people I pray for with arthritis are healed, regardless of what treatments they have had prior to that. About 50% of the cancer patients I have prayed for have 50% or more of the cancer gone the next time they see the doctor. Jesus is alive and well on planet earth! I have a personal relationship with God, where we have conversations together. Unlike "hearing voices", The Voice of the Lord is 100% accurate 100% of the time. He just doesn't tell me everything. One of my favorite techniques for mental healing is just asking Jesus to speak love to a person in the midst of recalling a traumatic memory. He always does something different, but always effectively heals the trauma.  The person doesn't even have to be a Christian.

I have had to deal with aliens called demons.  They have more spiritual capabilities than us.  However, they know who Jesus Christ of Nazareth is -- and can be ordered around by His conferred authority.  The Bible says so and I have done so.

As for the Old Testament -- the book of Genesis particularly -- I accept it on the basis that Jesus my Lord and example respected it.  Since I am not trying to be a Jew, I don't worry about all that.  Yes, there were dinosaurs at one time.  The world could be very old -- or not.  I don't care.

So, regardless of all the wrangling among Christians, all the harassment by unbelievers, all the times troubles still can come my way, I am solid in my foundation in Christ.
