healing pride

Pride leads to witchcraft.  "Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall."  Proverbs 16:18

Do acts of righteousness and charity for people in private before God. And God will reward you.

"Be careful no to do your 'acts of righteousness before men, to be seen by them.  If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.  So when you give kind deeds and charitable giving to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men.  I tell you the truth, thy have received their reward in full.  But when you give kind deeds and charitable giving to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you..' Matt 6:1-4

Fasting in private is a humbling thing, strictly for God and not others.  And it is God who wants us to fast.

"Whenever you fast, do not put on a gloomy face as the hypocrites do, for they neglect their appearance so that they will be noticed by men when they are fasting Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. "But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face so that your fasting will not be noticed by men, but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you. Matt. 6:16-18

It came about when Ahab heard these words, that he tore his clothes and put on sackcloth and fasted, and he lay in sackcloth and went about despondently. Then the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying, "Do you see how Ahab has humbled himself before Me? Because he has humbled himself before Me, I will not bring the evil in his days, but I will bring the evil upon his house in his son's days." 1 Kings 21:27-29

Praying to God privately keeps it from being prideful before men. And it is God who listens to your prayers.

"And when you pray you shall not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.  But you, when you pray, enter into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret shall reward you openly."  Matt. 6:5-6

"But when you pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking."  (They consider themselves their own God.)  Matt. 6:7

Taking the humble place, letting God exault you.

"And He began speaking a parable to the invited guests when He noticed how they had been picking out the places of honor at the table, saying to them,  'When you are invited by someone to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for someone more distinguished than you may have been invited by him,  and he who invited you both will come and say to you, 'Give your place to this man,' and then in disgrace you proceed to occupy the last place.'"  Luke 4:7-9

He that is down needs fear no fall;
He that is low no pride;
He that is humble ever shall
Have God to be his guide.

"Pilgrim's Progress" by Paul Bunyan , 1628-1688
